Making Wound Care Accessible
Expert Osteoradionecrosis Care You Can Trust
Osteoradionecrosis (ORN) is the breakdown of jawbone tissue following radiation treatment for head and neck cancer. At Hill Country Wound Care & Hyperbarics, San Antonio’s largest private outpatient wound-care & hyperbarics network, physician-led, with three Advanced Healing Centers north, east, and southwest of your location, we specialize in HBOT-supported ORN care before and after oral surgery to optimize healing, minimize complications, and restore your quality of life.
Radiation therapy can sometimes damage your jawbone and surrounding tissues, but HBOT delivers 100% oxygen under pressure to improve blood flow, speed healing of established ORN, and strengthen the surgical site for healthier bone and tissue. It helps prevent jawbone breakdown after tooth extractions, reduces pain and inflammation, restores jaw function for dental appliances, and keeps your mucosa and skin intact to ward off chronic wounds and infection.

Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that navigating insurance and payment options can be complex. Below are answers to some common questions about coverage and payment for wound care services at Hill Country Wound Care:
ORN is a delayed complication of head-and-neck radiation where part of your jawbone loses blood supply and begins to break down. Look for persistent jaw pain, exposed bone in your mouth, swelling, difficulty chewing or swallowing, and non-healing sores around the jaw or gums.
HBOT delivers 100% oxygen under pressure to your radiated jaw, which enhances blood flow, stimulates new vessel growth, and helps your bone and soft tissue heal more effectively, both before and after any necessary oral surgery.
Most ORN patients complete 30-40 daily sessions, each lasting 90–120 minutes. Treatments are scheduled five days a week, so you’ll typically finish in 4–6 weeks, with regular progress checks by our physician-led team.
You’ll relax in our clear-acrylic Perry monoplace chamber while a board-certified hyperbaric physician and trained technician monitor you. Treatments are painless, and most patients notice reduced pain and improved jaw function within a few weeks.
